Gladiator is another one of Playtech’s many licensed and franchised slot machine games. This one, of course, is based on the hit 2000 motion picture starring Russell Crowe as Maximus, a former Roman general that has become a slave in the Coliseum, with a mind to avenge his family’s brutal murder at the hands of the Roman Emperor, Commodus. The slot though, does not follow this story, and instead just depicts key icons and characters from the hit movie, but that is more than enough to get any Gladiator fans’ juices pumping, in what is already a classic and legendary slot machine game.

How to play Gladiator slots online

Gladiator bonus features

The scatter symbol in this slot is the Coliseum in Rome. Whilst a single scatter icon rewards players with nothing, two scatter icons will see them offered a 1x bonus. Three scatter symbols or more will trigger the Coliseum bonus round. Three scatter symbols offer 4x multipliers, whilst 4 or 5 scatter symbols will give a player 20x or 100x multiplier bonuses.

There is also a gamble feature in this slot, which a player can wager their recent wins on if they wish. The gamble feature involves guessing whether the next card will be black or red. If the player wins, then they will double their money. If they lose, then they will lose their winnings. The maximum amount that can be won with the gamble feature is £2,500.

The wild symbol

The Gladiator’s helmet doubles up as a bonus icon and a wild symbol. The helmet appears on reels 2, 3 and 4 and substitutes itself for all symbols in the game, with the exception of the scatter icon. This will greatly aid a player in completing a winning payline. Of course, if they have three or more wild icons, then the Gladiator Bonus round is triggered.

The Bonus Rounds

There are two bonus rounds in the slot machine game.

The first is the Coliseum Bonus, which is triggered when a player has 3 or more scatters. The player will be presented with a screen of stones. Each row of stones contains a different type of prize. The first row contains free games, the second row contains free game multipliers, the third row contains extra scatters, and fourth row contains extra wild icons. Players must pick a prize, followed by 1 of four options. The prizes are collect all prizes in the picked column, pick another prize in the row above, pick another prize in the same row, and collect the prize and continue to free games. During free spins a total of 3 free spins can be added by acquiring Commodus on reel 3. No other free spins can be retriggered.

The second bonus round is the Gladiator Bonus round. Three helmets on reels 2, 3 and 4 triggers this bonus round. The player must pick from nine different helmets, with gold, silver or bronze values. Once three values in the same colour are matched, they are added together and paid out.
