Thor – also known as Thor: The Might Avenger – is another of Playtech’s Marvel super hero themed slot machine games. This slot is a part of the Marvel progressive jackpot network, and is based on the motion picture of the same name. There are several Thor releases on the internet, but Playtech’s version is the only one that is licensed from the movie, and so naturally features the best graphics and audio of all the Thor slots on the market.

How to play Thor slots online

This particular slot is played across 5 reels, and has a total of 30 paylines. In almost every way, it is identical to other Marvel themed slots. Rather predictably, the coin range is from £0.01 to £20 per coin. This means that the minimum and maximum wagers that players can place when playing this slot are £0.01 per line per spin, and £600 per spin, respectively.

It should come as no surprise that the main icons in this slot game are all items from the motion picture. Several characters from the movie appear as icons, and footage from the 2011 movie is also incorporated into the game. The high playing cards make up most of the smaller icons used in this slot.

Thor bonus features

The scatter symbol in this slot is Thor’s Hammer. The hammer offers players coin payouts of 5, 25 or 100 coins, should they accumulate 3, 4 or 5 of the scatter symbols anywhere on the reels.

There are a number of re-spins and free spin features in this slot. The Thunderstorm re-spin is offered when Thor covers reel 2 during play. The player is awarded with 1 re-spin with reel 2 frozen and covered with wild symbols. This cannot be retriggered during the Thunderstorm re-spin round.

The Lightning Free Spin round occurs when Thor covers reel 4 during gameplay. The player is awarded 1 free spin, during which anything from 2 to 5 wild icons will be placed across the reels. I too cannot be retriggered during the bonus round.

Jotunheim Free Games are awarded when a player appears on all reels and is present but is stacked and not stacked on reel 3. Free games are played until the Rainbow Bridge icon appears on reel 3, when the game ends and the Rainbow Bridge feature begins. During the Jotunheim Free Games round, there is a Wild Laufey feature that will freeze the current combination for the next spin.

There is another free games round, called the Earth Free Games which is similar to this. The different is that instead of a Wild Laufey feature, there is a Scorching Multiplier feature, that offers multiplied wins of 2, 4, 8 or 16 respectively.

The wild symbols

Thor is the wild icon and comes stacked on reels 2 and 4. It will trigger the Thunderstorm re-spin if found on reel 2, and the Lighting re-spin if found on reel 4. Wild substitute themselves for all icons except special feature icons. 5 wild icons will award a top jackpot of 5,000 coins.

The Rainbow Bridge feature

The Rainbow Bridge feature is triggered when a player has the gatekeeper icon covering reel 3 in standard play. This can also be achieved via the Jotunheim Free Games round. The player has two orbs to choose from. If the player arrives at the Rainbow Bridge feature via the main game, they will enter either the Jotunheim Free Game or the Earth Free Games Round. If they arrive via the Earth Free Games or the Jotunheim Free Games, they will transport either to the main game or the other Free Games bonus.

The Thor jackpot

The standard Thor jackpot of worth 5,000 coins; however, this is a Marvel progressive jackpot network slot, and therefore players can win any one of four progressive jackpots. The jackpots are triggered randomly and are based on how much a player is wagering (kind of). The Power Jackpot is the lowest progressive in value, followed by the Extra Power and Super Power, with the Ultimate Power Jackpot being the biggest progressive jackpot available.

This jackpot is available for all Marvel progressive jackpot games, so a player may win the progressive even if they are not necessarily playing Thor, but another of Marvels jackpot games. The progressive jackpot is won via a 4×5, match-a-trio of icons game.

Other notes on Thor

The motion picture was phenomenal success. Again with Marvel super hero slots though, there isn’t too much different in the design of the slot from other titles in the Marvel super hero franchise. The bonus rounds can be confusing, particularly as they are linked from one to another, and back to the main game.

All in all though, with the ability to win a massive progressive jackpot at random, and with any stake; Thor is a very appealing slot to most gamers.
